Getting paid for the work you already do

In December 2023, MassHealth introduced a doula benefit. Doulas who enrol as MassHealth-reimbursable providers can be paid for the birthing assistance they provide to MassHealth members.

Enrolling means working through state forms that were not written with doulas in mind. This toolkit exists to get you through them — whether you practise independently, run a practice, work within a group, or some combination of the three.

Which one is mine?

The printable toolkits come in five versions, each color-coded to a way of practising. If none of them obviously describes you, the survey below will say which to take.

  • Yellow Independent doulas
  • Blue Part of a group practice
  • Green Own a doula practice
  • Orange Own a practice and work as part of a group practice
  • Pink Independent and work as part of a group practice

The process

Four steps, start to finish

  1. Choose your route

    The interactive walkthrough guide, or the printable PDF toolkit that matches how you practise.

  2. Fill out the information form

    A short form gives you access to the resource. Both routes ask for this.

  3. Complete the MassHealth forms

    Work through the enrolment paperwork using the guide or toolkit alongside it.

  4. Post it to MassHealth

    Mail the completed enrolment paperwork. The toolkit tells you where it goes.
